THE STORY

The U is moving to The Corbin District in Darien, CT in January 2027!

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN.

In so many ways, that place is considered to be Camp Ave. in Stamford, when The U – originally known as Upper Deck Fitness – opened its doors in 2015. But the truth is the impetus for The U was born long before the infamous spiral staircase, when Suzanne had 9 toes out the door of the fitness industry and was headed back to work in corporate America.

Which would have been the case if not for David Genovese, who saw SVB on a segment on the Today show and decided he needed her for a health and wellness project he was working on in Darien, CT. He believed in her and, perhaps more importantly, he got her to believe in herself. And he’s been behind Suzanne and Carl’s quest to have an impact ever since.

So it’s safe to say the seeds of The U were planted in the power of being seen – both literally and figuratively – which is why this remains such an integral part of our mission to this very day.

WHY CORBIN?

If you’ve driven on I95 anytime in the past year, you’ve undoubtedly witnessed the incredible community rising to life in the town of Darien.  This is The Corbin District, the vision of David and his late business partner, Penny Glassmeyer, a 20+ year pursuit aiming to personify the intersection of New York City and New England.

With a carefully curated selection of shopping, dining and wellness, Corbin is designed to be a town square – a place where work, life and play mingle in a way that feels organic. Where all the parts of you feel like they belong.

So when David asked Suzanne and Carl if The U would be interested in servicing this vibrant new neighborhood, the answer was a resounding yes. Not only are they looking forward to giving their existing clients the opportunity to level up their visits to The U by leveraging all that Corbin will have to offer, they are eager to introduce the power of the UMatter Mission to the residents of Darien.

It’s alignment. And in many ways it feels like a calling. By partnering with David to leave people better off than they were before, which is how this journey all began.

WHAT’S NEXT?

SO MUCH – and not much at all.

With an official move scheduled for January, it is all business as usual through the end of the year. No need to think about how your drive will change or worry about parking (there will be plenty!). We’ll keep you posted as we get closer with any relevant updates, but know that the entire team (and then some – we’re growing!) are heading with us to Corbin. It’s our job to ensure every ounce of the transition feels seamless for you – because in every sense, this is an upgrade.

And, of course, the relocation has literally no impact on our other core offerings, including the Virtual Gym, Waterstone Senior Living and corporate wellness programming. We will also be maintaining our presence as an amenity at 225 High Ridge Rd. for any employees and corporate tenants.

To everyone who has supported The U – be it from Day 1 or as a recent addition to our community – we are so humbled to have you as a part of our story. Thank you for believing in us and entrusting us with your health. You have our word that you are the driving force behind the strategic steps we take to grow this company.

Our Focus is not Fitness. It’s You.
